Remove sealant residue - the basis for a clean finish

After removing old sealant, the job often seems done, but in reality, small sealant residues almost always remain. These seem harmless, but can have a major impact on the final result. Remnants of silicone, acrylic or butylene sealant cause new sealant to adhere poorly, so that the joint soon becomes loose or dries unevenly.

Want a sleek, durable finish? Then kit residue removal is an essential step, in this blog you can read more about kit removal.

Why remove sealant residues?

When you remove old sealant, a thin layer of sealant is often left behind that has firmly attached itself to the substrate. If you work directly over it, the new sealant layer does not adhere well. The result: air bubbles, cracks or loose edges.

In addition, dirt and grease can build up around old joints, causing mould or discolouration. By cleaning thoroughly first, you lay the perfect foundation for a sleek and professional end result.

1. Remove the seat edges (as much as possible) with a sharp knife or other object

2. Then cover the surfaces without sealant residues as much as possible with, for example, plastic

7. Finally, carefully remove any remaining SUPER Silicone Remover with plenty of water and a clean cloth

8. If necessary, repeat this treatment

Benefits of the Super Silicone Remover

  1. Works on silicone, acrylic, butylene and universal sealants.

  2. Suitable for removing glue residues and adhesive layers.

  3. Ensures a perfectly clean surface to which new sealant adheres optimally.

  4. Applicable on both indoor and outdoor surfaces.

Extra tip: degrease for perfect adhesion

Even when the sealant residue has disappeared, a thin layer of grease or dirt often remains. For optimal adhesion of new sealant, use Super Pro All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser afterwards. This Ecolabel product is biodegradable, safe for all surfaces and provides a grease-free base on which new sealant adheres better and lasts longer.
