Removing white deposits

White scale is a common problem on facades, bricks and tiles. It looks like a powdery or granular, white haze that slowly appears on the surface. This deposit forms when moisture migrates out from the interior of the brick, carrying salts or lime along the way. Once the moisture evaporates, those substances are left behind as a white layer.

There are different forms of white deposits. The most common are lime efflorescence and salt rash (also known as saltpeter). Both result from moisture problems and are a sign that water is soaking through the wall or surface. Although white scale usually does not cause damage to the stone itself, it is unsightly. Fortunately, with the right approach and products, you can remove it easily and safely.

White deposits on dark or black tiles are especially noticeable and are often an eyesore. Lime or salt efflorescence creates an unsightly white haze. Fortunately, the white stain remover also perfect on tiles.

• Wet the surface first
• Apply with a spray
• Work with a scrub brush or patio cleaner
• Rinse well with plenty of clean water

Regular maintenance and possibly impregnation will prevent the deposit from coming back.
